Experience Itinerary:
Girona's Jewish Quarter, or "El Call," is a beautifully preserved medieval maze of narrow, cobbled streets in the heart of the old city, once home to a thriving Jewish community known for Kabbalah and learning, featuring the Museum of Jewish History (located in the Bonastruc ça Porta Center) on a former synagogue site, offering a profound glimpse into Sephardic life before the 1492 expulsion.
What to Expect in El Call:
Girona is a historic Catalan city in Spain, famous for its remarkably preserved medieval Old Town with Roman walls, winding cobbled streets, the stunning Gothic Cathedral, and colorful houses lining the Onyar River, making it a popular, more relaxed alternative to Barcelona for history, culture, and gastronomy, including Michelin-starred dining and proximity to the Costa Brava beaches and Pyrenees.
Key Attractions & Features:
The Costa Brava, Spain's "Wild Coast," is a stunning Mediterranean shoreline in northeastern Catalonia known for its dramatic cliffs, hidden coves, beautiful beaches, and charming villages, stretching from Blanes to the French border. It blends natural beauty with rich history, offering a mix of lively resorts (Lloret de Mar), medieval towns (Tossa de Mar, Girona), Salvador Dalí sites (Figueres), and outdoor activities, all with a distinct Catalan culture.
Key Features:
Girona Cathedral is a stunning landmark in Girona, Spain, famous for its unique blend of Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque styles, highlighted by its world-largest Gothic nave and the iconic Baroque staircase used in Game of Thrones. While the grand facade and main structure are Gothic/Baroque, its origins lie in the 11th-century Romanesque period, featuring a notable Romanesque cloister and the "Tower of Charlemagne," showcasing its rich historical evolution from a Romanesque church to a massive Gothic edifice.
