Cádiz Self-Guided Detective Murder Mystery Game

Your first instructions arrive on the Plaza de la Catedral, in the shadow of the Catedral de Cádiz. The trail then runs into the lanes behind it, up to the Torre Tavira and across the Plaza de San Juan de Dios. It is a self-guided murder mystery game rather than a tour, and the old town of Cádiz is where the whole thing plays out.

Cádiz sits on a narrow spit of land, so the centre is small, flat and hard to get lost in, which suits families with young children and mixed-age groups. A team is up to four people around one phone; if there are more of you, take a ticket per team and let them work in parallel. A single player can run the case alone. There is no guide, no meeting point and no start time you have to make.

The case is the murder of Balthasar. Codes need to be cracked, photo tasks completed on the spot, and the accounts of several digital characters compared line by line. Near the Gran Teatro Falla one of them contradicts himself, and the way out towards the Puerta de Tierra is where the remaining names get crossed off.

Send out more than one team and the case becomes a competition, which is what makes it usable for teambuilding as well as for a family afternoon. Break off whenever you want, come back to it later, and finish the investigation in the streets of Cádiz.
