The Syndicate trail opens on Plaza de los Naranjos in Marbella, under the orange trees in front of the Ayuntamiento de Marbella. From that square the route threads into the lanes of the old town, passing the Capilla de San Juan de Dios and climbing to the walls of the Castillo de Marbella. This is an outdoor escape game played on foot, where the streets hold the answers rather than a locked room.

The old centre of Marbella is compact and mostly flat, which makes it workable for families with children, groups of friends, couples and colleagues alike. A team is two to five players sharing one phone, and each player takes on a character with a distinct part in the mission, so the group has to pool what it knows. Larger parties split into separate teams and set off on their own. Nobody is waiting on a guide, and you decide yourself when to begin.

How to play

Getting started in Marbella takes only a few minutes.

  1. Book the City Game
  2. Check the instructions email
  3. Download the Loquiz app
  4. Start playing whenever you like

Magnus has made off with a set of stolen formulas, and your team is on his tail. Ciphers, riddles and photo tasks pass you from one hiding place to the next, across Plaza del Santo Cristo and down towards Plaza de África, with each character able to contribute something the others cannot. Codes get cracked, theories get argued over, and the trail keeps moving.

Run two or more teams at once and it turns into a race, which is why the game works well as a team building escape game for colleagues. There is nothing stopping you from breaking for a drink halfway and picking the hunt up afterwards, with the whole of old Marbella still in play.
