Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura Self-Guided Detective Murder Mystery Game

Puerto del Rosario opens its case at the Centro de Arte Juan Ismael, a few streets back from the harbour on Fuerteventura. From there the route runs through the centre, past the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario and on to the Casa Museo Unamuno. It is a detective game you play yourself, on foot and from your phone.

The town is small, level and quickly walked, which makes this a straightforward outing for families with children, friends, couples and colleagues, and it is equally workable alone. A team is up to four people sharing one phone; if there are more of you, buy a ticket per team and play against each other. No guide walks with you and no start time is fixed, so an early start in Puerto del Rosario, before the sun gets high, is entirely possible.

The case concerns the murder of Balthasar. Codes surface on walls and signs, photo tasks ask you to record what you see, and digital characters offer statements that do not always line up. The open-air works of the Parque Escultórico and the quiet blocks behind the harbour both hold pieces of it, and each solved task takes a suspect out of the running.

With several teams out at the same time it becomes a competition, and the scores give you something to argue about afterwards, which is why it also serves as a teambuilding activity. Break for a drink, pick the case back up, and finish it in Puerto del Rosario at your own pace.
